In Forex trading, you can benefit not only from the rise of prices, but also from their falls. Confused? Let's explain; You can make profits on both positions by buying currency pairs - opening positions in the bullish direction - or selling - opening positions in the downward direction.

In this market, you can trade in many products from currencies to commodities, precious metals to shares. It will be beneficial to get to know the products before making a transaction in order to increase your earnings.

Swap, literally, means swap, barter / exchange. In Forex markets, swap is referred to as overnight carrying cost / overnight interest. While calculating Forex swap rates, the difference in interest rates between the two countries' currencies is taken into account. All currency pairs traded in Forex markets have swap costs. The swap-free forex account type is called an "Islamic" or "swapless forex" account.

In the swap-free forex account, also known as an Islamic or interest-free account, swap cost, which we know as overnight interest, is removed. This is preferred firstly by some with religious sensitivity. It can also be preferred by other investors depending on the type of transaction as it brings some advantages to investors. The best known of these advantages and the reason why they are preferred is that they reduce the risk in long term transactions.

The difference between the purchase price (ask) and the selling price (bid) of currency pairs / parities (the ratio of currencies to each other) is called spread. The difference between the bid and ask prices is measured in pips. Spreads may vary within the day depending on the liquidity in the market. These spreads, called dynamic spreads (variable spreads), may contract during high liquidity hours and expand during low liquidity hours. Some brokerage houses also have fixed spreads.

In Forex, the smallest price change movement in an instrument is called a pip. It consists of the abbreviation of the initials of the words "Price Interest Point". It is expressed as plural pips. Pips are used in many places such as measuring the spread between buy and sell prices, determining transaction costs, and creating price charts and indicators.

In finance terminology, the mechanism that enables more investments with a smaller amount is called leverage. A common practice of leverage in financial transactions means that an investment is financed with debt rather than equity in order to maximize its return.

The leverage ratio is the ratio of the cash loan provided by the Forex brokerage firm where the investor has a Forex account to the minimum collateral amount that must be in the investor's account in order to open a certain size position to the investor. Leverage ratios in Forex markets are expressed as 50: 1, 100: 1 or 200: 1.

Lot, a term that will be heard by those who will trade in Forex markets, is used to express the size of 100,000 units. Investors who want to invest in the Forex market express their transaction size with this concept and enter the transaction under this name. In short, 1 lot of lot is the expression of 100,000 units in a parity on the left side of the exchange rate.

Base point is the unit of measure used to show the change in rates that occur in interest calculations. It is a method that is widely used for small percentage accounts and is frequently preferred to understand these accounts more easily. Transactions using base points are therefore more easily understood. In the money market, the digits after the comma can correspond to large values, so such calculations are important.
